What your scandalous profile pictures say about you

Posted by Johnny Romano On December - 2 - 2010

To my experience, the more beautiful you are. The more self absorbed, egotistical and quite possibly materialistic the person has come across. Why  increase the “stereotype” by adding an abundance of scandalous pics to your public profile? lets find out…

Its mind blowing how many girls (and guys) post so many scandalous boob shots.  Whats more mind blowing is that occasionally the very next picture in the album is with their daughter.  Is this really the image you want to pass on to the next generation? call me old fashioned!  But If you’re a model, i understand. Although I’ve always been told “there is a time and a place for everything”. (Usually when trying to make a classroom of 30 laugh while the teacher is teaching). Which makes me believe that majority of people need to learn how to organize their “promotions” of scandalous shot.   Lets start by creating an album called “modeling” or if your a total skeez “scandalous”.  This way you’ll have better luck with potential modeling opportunity’s.  Dont forget that you can even set albums with different privacy settings.

In a recent study/survey people with narcissistic personality traits were shown to exhibit Facebook activity that was distinctly more self-promotional.

According to a Canadian researcher, who surveyed 100 students (50 men, 50 women) between the ages of 18 and 25 on their Facebook habits, frequent users tend to be the most insecure and self-centered. After quizzing each subject on his or her Facebook usage, she had them take a personality test to determine their level of narcissism.

Those who spent more time updating their profile on the social networking site were more likely to be narcissists, said researchers. Especially if majority of your profile pictures include scandalous shots.

Facebook provides an ideal setting for narcissists to monitor their appearance and how many ‘friends’ they have, the study said, as it allows them to thrive on ‘shallow’ relationships while avoiding genuine warmth and empathy. For the average narcissist, Facebook “offers a gateway for hundreds of shallow relationships and emotionally detached communication.

One final item of note — according to the same results, women are more likely to self-promote on Facebook with a flattering photo, while men are more likely to use carefully worded posts.

While the correlation between narcissism and insecurity may seem strange, researchers believe that narcissism is actually rooted in a lack of self-esteem.

Facebook has more than 500million users worldwide and is the world’s biggest social networking website, but it has been involved in a number of controversies.

A study earlier this week showed that the grades of students who use Facebook while they study, even if it is only on in the background, are 20 per cent lower on average than those of non-users.

Dego’s best meals under $3

Posted by Johnny Romano On November - 4 - 2010

So today I watched “Super Size Me” and last month I watched Food Inc (Pbs special). The topic of food had me thinking about when people are broke, they buy more fast food because its cheaper. I truly beg to differ that point and give you a list of healthy meals for under $2 per person.

After a few years of putting every single dollar I have into my business’s. I’ve gotten to know very well how to keep my stomach happy without forking over a ton of money on grocery’s. I very rarely eat fast food because it’s the worst thing you can put into your body.

1) Pasta

Those “eye-talian’s” did really well when creating the pasta dish back in the day. You can get a box of pasta and a jar of “gravy”(sauce) to feed a family of 4, all under $1 per plate. I however usually make my own “gravy” so I dont have to eat all the preservatives in a jar of sauce. Plus everything taste better when you make it yourself. I usually end up adding Italian sausage or chicken to the mix for the protein.

2) Chicken caesar salad

Chicken is not only healthy and a good source of protein, its not all that expensive either. Which is also a versatile food that can go into almost anything. Like pasta, soup, burrito’s, taco’s, panini’s… etc.

3) Pita pizza’s

To make a cheap pizza, most people buy a “Boboli” pizza crust and go from there. However, if you just want a lunch for yourself. You can get a dozen pita’s for the price of a Boboli pizza dough. Then doctor it up with pizza sauce, cheese and whatever else your heart desires. (My fav. is to use fresh tomato)

4)Panini

My all time favorite sandwich is the great panini. For a basic version, all you need is Italian bread, olive oil, italian spices and your standard meats, cheese and lettuce. panini details

A decade of learning in your 20′S

Posted by Johnny Romano On December - 31 - 2009

The first decade of the 21st century was one of the most instrumental learning stages for most 80′s baby’s.  It was a time to finish school and hit the “real world” and learn from those already there.   In 2000 I graduated from Devry and traveled North America as systems engineer for a couple years.  I met a lot of good people, traveled a lot and also got laid off more then most do in their entire life (2).  I did see more then most of my friends still away at school, plus more “real world” business’s experiences.  It makes me wonder how important the bachelor degree really is compared to real world experience plus an associates degree anyway?

Before starting a family like most of my friends were did after they graduated.  I opted to exploring my passion’s, relationship’s and love in order to see what i really wanted out of life.  It was a decade in my 20′s doing anything and everything to find how to make my passions my career. For me it was having all the freedom in the world and then stripped of it all the next day. It was a period of learning “money isnt everything” and its really the cause to most of society’s problems.  When you can be completely happy with nothing. Only then can you find who you are and where you wanna go, with what you got.

So what I’m gonna tell you is what I learned instead of reiterating the obvious of what happened in those years.

I learned:

  1. To diversify yourself because $hit can hit the fan real quick.
  2. Reality tv will sadly never go away.
  3. The quicker you get up, the quicker you can face a challenge.
  4. I should have been a rapper or football kicker.
  5. Dont fear the uncertainty of chasing your passion.
  6. Keep your license, license plates and stickers up-to-date and pay all your tickets on time no matter what else is going on that you think is more important.
  7. That songs on mainstream radio are just becoming really long commercials for liquor companies and drug dealer.
  8. Sometimes you gotta wear your ♥ on your sleeve open 2 the elements in order 2 get closer 2 what ur really lookin 4
  9. Doing what your passionate about feels like everyday is Friday. You still have to work…its just more exciting.
  10. To “Go big or Go Home” always applies.
  11. Kids really are the future like MJ sang it (R.I.P.).
  12. That corporate lobbying needs to be illegal as of 2010.
  13. It starts with family and ends with family.
  14. It is possible to work 2 full time jobs.
  15. That deep inside, we all want the same things in life and will get there faster by working together.
  16. The computer+ internet is the most powerful tool next to the human brain.
  17. “Teaching is the most noble of professions. What teachers do in their classroom affect not only their students, but generations of learners to come.” – Neil Postman
